A Guide for Teachers and Administrators
By: Dr. Korrie L. White

Mondays, the notorious nemesis of motivation, often cast a shadow over educators and administrators alike as they embark on a new week. The Monday morning blues can be challenging, but fear not – we've got your back. Here are three tips to help you shake off that Monday funk and start the week on a positive note:
1. Set Realistic Goals for the Week:
Take a moment on Sunday evening to outline achievable goals for the week. Break down larger tasks into manageable steps, creating a roadmap that guides you through the week. Having a clear plan can alleviate the overwhelming feeling that often accompanies Monday mornings. Spend no more than 10 minutes making your plan for the week. Remember to use it as a guide only. If something on your “roadmap” is not accomplished by the end of the week. It is okay. Remember, we are looking for progress and not perfection! Give yourself grace!
2. Create a Positive Morning Routine:
Transform your Monday mornings by cultivating a positive routine. Start the day with activities that bring you joy – enjoying a favorite breakfast, practicing mindfulness exercises, or listening to uplifting music during your commute. Incorporating positive habits into your morning sets the tone for a more optimistic and energized day. My secret is to wake up at least 30 minutes before everyone else in my home. This alone time seems to help tremendously.
3. Cultivate a Supportive Community:
Connect with colleagues who share your sentiments about Monday mornings. Consider organizing a brief Monday morning prayer call, coffee, or virtual meeting where you can share your thoughts and encourage one another. Knowing that you are not alone in experiencing Monday blues can foster a sense of camaraderie and support. Keep it positive!
Remember, Mondays are an opportunity for a fresh start. By implementing these three tips, you can turn the Monday morning blues into a positive launchpad for a successful and fulfilling week ahead. Embrace the new week confidently, and let each Monday be a stepping stone toward your professional and personal growth. Remember, you get the opportunity to go to work and impact the minds and lives of students! Be grateful while giving yourself grace!
